abortion, Homosexuality, Obama

President Obama was re-elected on Tuesday. Tuesday night and on through the week Christians were decrying the Antichrist, or a few were anyway. It seems many of those who I see on Twitter anyway were rather bothered by this turn of events. This might relate to the fact that so many watch and trust Fox News to accurately report things such as polling data. But, that is another matter.

What will four more years of President Barack Obama mean? I’m no William Tapley, Pat Robertson, or even a lessor prophet, but I do see some possibilities.

Some of the voices in the Republican party are saying they have to distance themselves from the radical Christians who oppose all abortion and opposed to any form of homosexual marriage or civil union. Had the Republican party given up those stances it probably would have won Romney the election.

My hope is that seeing this Christians will realize that the Republican party is no more the party of God than the Democrat party. Instead, the Republican party is a political organization wrestling for control and is willing to go along with some Christian values if Christians are a big enough target demographic. While the Democrat party is openly anti-God, they had to vote three times whether to bring God back into their campaign, the Republican party is not much better, they are just less open about it.

My other hope relates to the “take back America” crowd and the dominionist cults. (NAR / IHOP, 2) I hope this election opens the eyes of these people to see that America is not a Christian nation, and that there is no Christian ideal to take the nation “back” to. America has a bloody history and is bloodier now than it was in the past. Maybe this election will lead people to realize that the Kingdom of God isn’t an earthly kingdom and doesn’t spread by worldly means. America compares more to Babylon than it does to Israel in the Old Testament, Christians don’t have a national identity, the Kingdom we are of is not of this world, and we are just sojourners passing through.

While I’m not in favor of a second term of President Obama, I do see some good that may come of it. (Not that I was really all that in favor of Romney for that matter.) Unfortunately, I also see that unless the Lord intervenes abortion will continue unabated (55 million as of January), gay marriage will continue to spread, and now it seems marijuana is on a path towards legalization. It might bring us some persecution as well.

I’d like to hear other’s thoughts on what the consequences of Obama’s re-election will be.

For those who haven’t seen it, I recommend 180Movie.

Again, not really sure what to title this. But, these are some things I came across in the last couple weeks that I thought were worth sharing.

Ten Reasons Why the New NIV is bad for women - Is gender inclusivity a bad thing? Chrome doesn’t think it is a word, so it must be! Anyway, Girls Gone Wise had a good take on the issue.

Robert Jeffress on Bill Maher – The pastor who made the controversial statement that Mormonism is a cult appeared on Bill Maher’s show. Maher isn’t usually too fond of theists, Christians in particular, so it is surprising that he even got a chance to speak. Jeffress was able to express that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone much to Maher’s chagrin.

Where Child Sacrifice is a Business – Child sacrifice in pagan witch doctor practice got some exposure recently. It seems that some believe sacrificing a child can improve the economy, bring blessings upon a business, or even restore health. Despite this being in Africa, it doesn’t seem much different than the Western culture.

How I wish the Homosexuality Debate Would Go – Trevin Wax did an amazing job with this short post. If people would approach the homosexuality debate like this we would gain some ground and considerable understanding.

Planned Parenthood is Racist – Herman Cain spoke out against Planned Parenthood, saying he would defund them. He said that they are a racist organization that preys on black people, and he traced this back to their founder, Margaret Sanger. Many of us have believed this for a long time, but it is so rare to see a politician saying it.

Dr Albert Mohler, President of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, answers a  question about what concerns a person in college ministry should have with their students listening to Pastor Mark Driscoll? [display_podcast]

Eric Ludy* gives a pretty good, and dramatic, Gospel presentation, in this YouTube video.

Sometimes that voice in your head may not be the Holy Spirit. While Jesus did say it is better to gouge out one’s own eyes than to look at a woman with lust, I don’t think he expected us to literally do just that. This man heard a voice in his head telling him to take Jesus command literally, and did so.

A woman who strangled and killed her newborn baby has been released and will face no jail time thanks to a judge who cited support for legalized abortion in Canada, where abortions are legal and paid for at taxpayer expense.

* I’m not familar with Eric Ludy beyond this video. The video seems Arminian and may have some related issues, but overall he did a good job.

I really didn’t know what to title this post, but I think I would like to regularly put up a post with short snippets and links to full articles, I’m open to suggestions.

This video has had some controversy going on about it. It seems that those who support abortion, or are “pro-choice” seem to have issue with being compared to some of the worst evil in the world.

Anyway, I think it should be shared. I hope you’ll watch it in full. Along with the abortion argument there is a Gospel presentation at the end.
